The David Blaine Thread
Got kinda tired of seeing S&R taking the headline to this section.
This is a quote from a blog that a mentor of mine had written about me...this is the section of which he talks about DB...
Quote:
"He learned from the Master, folks. He's a disciple of David Blaine all the way, and David Blaine is the most important magician since Houdini. By far. David Blaine saved magic. He's the reason really cool, hip, artistic kids now are attracted to magic.
I've been in magic well over thirty years and it was never the cool, hip, artistic kids who did magic. Never. To be a magician was to automatically not be the cool, hip, artistic kid.
Now, thanks to David Blaine, we have more amazing cool, hip, artistic young magicians than ever.
The aging magical chattering class hates the Blaine style, so snootily dismissed as "Street Magic," precisely because it has the actual "street" in it, as in real people, in the real world. The idea that magic should be something that happens in their world, on their streets, in their lives, is anathema to the dysfunctional paradigm in which magic has stagnated for the last hundred years.
Like the aging rock and roll chattering class that hates and fears Hip Hop -- which similarly emerges from and expresses the feelings of the street -- magic's aging chattering class has quite convinced themselves that real magicians work gigs for money, like birthday clowns, or work live in theaters. "

And just for the record (a few people asked me about this) David Blaine didn't personally teach me...what he meant by that first line is that i was created by watching Blaine and i learned from this style because it was the only style of magic that seemed actually REAL to me. No Big stage productions, no tigers, no disappearing statues, no walking up buildings or floating from one building to another. It was cards, but with a purpose. Which is why i have to agree with Peacelove ( http://peacelovesmusings.blogspot.com/) when he says David Blaine is one of the most important magicians of our time.
Infinitely,
Chris Brown

"Wanna see some magic" xD
I agree man he did save magic (I probably wasn't born we he first become famous) And just all these new magicians such as your self showing kids, like myself, what you can create, what you can blunder up into your head to make an amazing scene.. What makes it even better? YOU CAN BUY HOW TO DO THE EFFECTS..
You can have a fiddle around on how to do the effects and you eventually create a whole new routine that'll shock them even more.
The style of David Blaine, DG, WH and yourself.. Is defiantly the way I'm going.. Thanks man your a big influence on the way I'm learning magic
ps. I'm 14

Magic got into David. He was your regular street magician who got gigs at rich parties. Because of his talent and uncanny character, he was able to draw up connections to ABC. After seeing a tape of his magic, they requested an interview and began planning a special. He was really a great magician.

Hello Ryan,
Well... he actually didn't save magic. LOL Magic was in a golden age when he came on the scene. Every casino in Vegas had some sort of magic show and S&R where packing in 1500 people a show.
He did however inspire a lot of street magicians and beginners to get into close up magic. His later stunts earned high ratings on television but steered away from magic and earned him more of a title of " performance artist". It will be interesting to see what he comes up with next.
Best,
Tim
