Greg Owens is on a distinguished road
Default So Here's the Story

Hello to yall from TN. My name is Greg Owens. Actually I AM NOT THE MAGICIAN...my son Devon ("D") is. He's 12yrs old and (proud dad talkin here) not too bad. He has about a 30-40minute Illusion show that we call "The Magic Journey" and is also a part of a 90min-2hr fundraising show called "Funny Money w/ Scott Cantrell"

This is really the thing that "D" and I do together. We get a LOT of Father/Son time with this.

at 12yrs old and in the 7th grade, Devon is starting his 3rd year in the High School Marching band. He's also a pretty decent percussionist. So he's a pretty busy kid.

Devon won the youth division for stage magic at the Winter Carnival of Magic in Pigeon Forge, TN in 2007, He won the Jr Division at the Talent show at the Putnam County Fair in 2007(and was also asked to perform on the stage with the "carnie magician" that travels with the fair that same day)...

He's a big fan of Stage Magic/Illusions however realizes that he needs to learn how to do the more "platformy" and walk-around stuff too. So we're here to learn as much as we can.

if ya wanna check out his website you can click here.. The Magic of Devon Owens and Glenna Beaty

Nice to meet you Greg. Congratulations on raising such a fine son. Hopefully we will be able to help mentor "D" along his magical journey.

Until we appear again,
Kipp Sherry

Yeah, His big brother, Codi is a Senior this year and has marched in the band since 8th Grade (8th graders NORMALLY march in our REALLY SMALL BAND). When Devon was in the 4th Grade I noticed that he was copying some of the stuff that Codi did on a drum, so I stuck him in lessons so he could learn THE RIGHT WAY. As it turned out he was pretty decent at it. He would have had to wait till 6th Grade to actually join the beginning band so the director offered to let him TRY to play in the pit (on the sideline) his 5th grade year. At least that way, he would be getting some more consistant instruction.
He actualy marched a bass drum last year, but a car wreck broke his collar bone and he figured it best to step back and play in the pit one more year so he wouldn't damage his collar bone anymore. So We're back on the sideline this year. Actuallly with all the keyboard instruments, he'll learn more there so I'm kinda glad he's there. Drums are cool, but the music is more challenging in the pit.

We wrote in his magic show script something like "I decided to join the high school band, because chicks dig short guys in uniform". it certainly gets a good laugh.

Welcome to the forum. I love the website. Glad he has a cousin working with him. I have always been a solo act due to not training anyone. Hopefully, my grandson will become more interested and we can work together.

Tell Devon to keep up the good work.

Glenn
