In mentalism there is a genre, or a sub-section, of effects known as Book Tests. I would venture forward and say that the majority of book tests revolve around a random word being chosen by a spectator from a book. The performer will then reveal what that word is, having had no way to see what word was chosen. Sometimes the revelation is in the form of a prediction. Sometimes the performance leads more into a telepathy feel.

There are some book tests that are used with a gaff book, and in this case a magazine. Some tests use a simple force with either dice, playing cards, or force bags.
