Breathing Life into this Forum

Well I see this forum has come back from the dead. Call it a hiatus or whatever... it might as well have been dead because removing it for so long when it was struggling to find an audience was not a good thing to do.

The timing was especially bad as I had just sent over a few large names in magic who had it up to here ( holding hand over head) with the Magic Crap-eh. Just as they tried to join Blacks .. the forum vanished. I can't think of a better way for them to loose interest.

Now that the forum is back I intend to try and direct others to it again in order to build an on going dialogue large enough to interest others who might visit to also join in.

Before doing so I'd like to see a post from the owners/mods of this forum stating that they intend to back that up buy NOT shutting it down again.

Tim,

As a Moderator, I don't have the Admin controls and therefore cannot warrant that the site will not shut down again. That is out of my control.

I can tell you why it shut down before. We had come under a massive spam attack with over 50 new spam accounts being set up daily. I was becoming an administrative nightmare trying to clean them out. They were coming in faster than we could remove them.

Hopefully those problems are now fixed and the forum can continue as it was intended to be used.

Hi Kipp,

The site was shut down for several weeks to my recollection. I am guessing a lot of traffic and interest was lost during that time. I'm hoping that is ground that we can make up for. I can understand the reason for the shut down but can't understand why it needed to be for so long. I got the idea the forum had been forgotten about. I am glad to see it back.

While we are discussing it I'm curious why there are still no avatars available. You have an avatar so we all get to see who you are and we can recognize your posts immediately. Who do we have to pester to allow us all to have avatars? Take a look at all the other threads in this Suggestion Box section and you'll see the Avatar thread had more views than any others. It looks to me like I am not the only one who thinks avatars would greatly improve the forum.

Hi Kipp,

No Luck... I have an avatar in my profile but not beside my posts. I don't know if I am doing something wrong or if your settings are different that allow you to display an avatar with your posts because you are a mod.

I don't know Tim. That's something that I have not been given the Admin permissions to change, it's totally in the hands of James. He'll have to make it work. Let him know.
