Invites to Chat

Would it be possible to have some way of inviting people over to the chat room? Here is the scenario. Sometimes I can see a friend is on line and I would like to Chat with them in real time.

Could we set up something where I could go to that persons profile, click a button or something to invite them to the chat room, and they would receive a popup message letting them know that they have an invite?

I think that would be really cool. What do you think?
